Movie Review # 448: The Fast & The Furious 9 (2021)

Well everyone, the time has come, when it ends up officially being twenty years since the very first Fast & The Furious film hit the big screen, and continues even now. Well, tonight, we talk about the latest in the franchise. The one, and only, Fast & The Furious 9.

Plot: When Jakob Toretto (John Cena) the long lost brother of Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) is developing a weapon that could control the world, and possibly destroy, it is up to Dom, and his crew to find him, and stop him. Can they do so before it’s too late?

So, how does this film compare to some of the others in the franchise? Well, it’s very good. However, The Fast & The Furious 9 does seem to have some issues here and there. First of all, some of the villains, most notably recurring ones, don’t seem to play quite as much of a role as they did in previous films that they were in. I mean if we were just talking about villains that are in a sequel of the franchise for the very first time, then it would most likely be different. However, in a case like this, when a villain was so threatening, devious in a previous film, and they’re downgraded in a film like this one, that should be considered an issue, wouldn’t you say? Second, some of the flashbacks that occur throughout this film may drag a little long at times. Okay, not always, as some of them do serve a bigger purpose. It’s just that some of them could have maybe been a little shorter, you know? In addition to these, some of the action scenes might have possibly dragged on a little too long, and could have also maybe cut a little shorter than they were in the end. Oh, and another thing, some of the character development may have been a little underwhelming. I mean yes, you do find yourself glad that some of the characters were developed the way that they were. It’s just that there were some aspects of it that could have been handled a little better than they were, you know?

Still, there are quite a few good things to enjoy. First off, even if some of the action might have overstayed it’s welcome at some points, it is also really cool at some points, specifically with certain scenes that occur throughout the film. Second, when it comes to some of the characters making decision at certain points that you may either agree, or disagree with, you can probably understand where they’re coming from. The acting is also very good. It’s also cool to see flashbacks of Dom, and Jakob during their earlier years before this franchise began it’s run. Oh, and another thing! When this film has flashbacks back to the 1980s, it’s interesting how the picture is made a little fuzzier like how say a camera was when recording a video around that time period. Yeah, pretty interesting how this movie basically adapted to a time like the 1980s, and did so with a time like today’s modern times, wouldn’t you say? Oh, and how about some of the surprisingly very funny moments in this film? I mean the way that some of them occur are very clever. It’s surprising how that’s the case. Finally, there are some good messages in this film, such as learning to not always trust certain people, and other things like that.

And that’s my review for The Fast & The Furious 9. Is it the best of the series? Well, not exactly. Still, it’s not a bad film. It’s just a sequel that could have most likely in certain areas. I would still recommend this film to others, especially to those who have committed themselves to watching the films of this franchise up to this point. Just be aware that if you’re looking for a sequel with as high of a rating as say the fifth one, or some of the more recent films, you’ll be disappointed. However, if you are okay with an action film that’s at least decent to good, then all the more reason to see this film. Definitely see it for what good action there is, some of the comedy, and some of the good messages here, and there.

I like going to movies, bike riding, swimming, and other fun activities along the way. I’m down for trying new activities, go to new places, and other things too. So yeah!
